Your account
Delete your Banter account
You can delete your account inside the app at any time, or ask us by email. This page is for the Banter app by Banter for Car Enthusiasts LLC.
In the app
- Open the Garage tab, then Settings, then Account.
- Choose "Delete my account" and confirm.
The deletion happens at once and cannot be undone.
By email
If you can no longer open the app, write to privacy@carbanter.com from the email address of your Banter account and ask us to delete it. We may ask you to confirm the request from that address, and we answer within 45 days at the latest, usually much sooner.
What is deleted
From our server: your account and sign-in, your profile (handle, name and car), the members you follow and who follow you, your blocks, the reports you made, your alerts and the photos you posted.
Threads and replies you wrote in Banter's own community, and messages you sent, are not deleted on their own: they stay with your handle, name and car taken off them and are shown as from "Deleted member", so that other members' replies in your threads and the other side of each conversation are not lost. To have a particular thread, reply or message of yours removed as well, write to support@carbanter.com before or after deleting your account.
Nothing else of yours is kept, apart from copies in backups until they are overwritten. Daily usage counts without content are kept only to manage allowances and costs.
What stays, and what to do first
- On your phone: your cars and their history stay on the phone until you use "Start over" in Settings or remove the app. They were never on our server.
- Subscriptions: deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. Cancel it first in the App Store or Google Play, as described on the support page.
- Other sites: your accounts on forums and other sites are separate. Banter never had their passwords, and deleting your Banter account changes nothing there.
The full detail is in section 8 of the privacy policy.
