The communities of what you drive, ride, tow, sail or fly. In one simple place.
Banter brings the forums, clubs, events and history of your car, motorcycle, RV, boat or aircraft together in one app for iPhone and Android. Add it once, and everything follows it. Own a car and a boat? Both live in the same garage.
- Live now on the App Store and Google Play
Free to download. One membership, two levels, bought in the store you already use.
Five kinds of enthusiast, one app
Banter started with cars and keeps every word of it. The same app now holds the other things people love to own and talk about, each with its own communities, its own words and its own plan. You choose what is in your garage; Banter shows only that.
-
Cars
The Garage
Your cars by VIN or by make, model and year, their forums and clubs, club meets, drives and track days, recalls from the U.S. road safety agency, and the car's own history.
-
Motorcycles
The Garage, for riders
Your bikes by VIN, the rider forums and owner clubs for each, the bike weeks and rallies of the year, and recalls. Daily Rider and Road Captain are the two levels.
-
RVs
My Rigs
Your motorhome, trailer or fifth wheel by VIN, the owner forums and clubs for its maker and chassis, the RV shows of the year, recalls, and the active weather alerts for your home state. Weekend Warrior and Full-Timer.
-
Boats
The Dock
Your boat by hull identification number, decoded on your phone, the owner forums and the forums for its type, the boat shows of the year, and the tides at your home port from NOAA. Weekend Skipper and Harbor Royalty.
-
Aircraft
The Hangar
Your aircraft by tail number, the type club and the pilot forums, the fly-ins of the year, and the latest weather report at your home airport from the FAA. Cross Country and Left Seat. Banter is not a flight-planning tool and says so on every card.
All five kinds are open in version 1.3. A kind can be paused from Banter's side if its communities or data need attention, and the app says so when that happens. Where a figure bears on safety on the water or in the air, Banter says that the owner's manual, a qualified technician and the Coast Guard's or the FAA's own publications have the final word.
What Banter does
Banter borrows the language of road signs. Every thread, event and notice carries a plate that says where it comes from, so you always know what you are reading.
-
Garage
Start with what you own
Add it once: a car, motorcycle or RV by its vehicle identification number, a boat by its hull number, an aircraft by its tail number, or by make, model and year. Banter checks the number, suggests the forums and clubs for it, and shows recall notices from the U.S. road safety agency where that agency covers the kind.
-
Feed
One feed across your communities
Connect the forums you already belong to. You sign in on each forum's own page, shown inside Banter, and Banter never sees your password. New threads from all of them arrive in one feed, each marked with its source and linked to the original, with headlines from the publications of your kind and new videos from well-known channels, which open on YouTube. Tap "Catch me up" for a short summary when you want one.
-
On Banter
Banter's own community
A place for each make where owners talk directly on Banter, plus private messages between Banter members. Every conversation offers Block and Report, and reports are reviewed within 24 hours.
-
Events
Events and reminders
Club events, meets and track days for what is in your garage, read from the calendars clubs publish, and the big gatherings of the year for each kind, from bike weeks to fly-ins and boat shows, listed from their organizers' pages. Tap "Remind me" and your phone reminds you the evening before. Each event links to the organizer's own page.
-
Facts
Facts for Banter
Figures for the car, bike, rig, boat or aircraft a thread is about, shown under the thread and ready to add to your reply. Each figure carries its source. A figure without a page behind it is marked so you can check it first.
-
History
Its history
Keep service, modifications, inspections, oil reports and performance runs in one record on your phone, for each thing you own. Banter reads the files that common performance meters export. Share a report, or hand the history to the next owner when you sell.
-
Easy View
Easy to read and use
Easy View offers larger text, larger buttons and fewer choices on each screen. Banter follows your phone's text size, and can read summaries aloud.
How Banter treats you and your communities
- Nothing posts without you. Every reply needs your own confirmation, for that reply and that community.
- Your passwords stay yours. You sign in on each site's own page. Banter never reads or stores a password.
- Forum content stays on your phone. Banter's server keeps none of it.
- Banter's writing is always labelled. Summaries, facts and drafts written by Banter are marked "by Banter" and appear only when you ask.
- Every thread links back. The original site is always one tap away.
- No advertising. Banter is paid for by its members, and your information is never sold.
Free, a plan for one kind, or Full Garage
Banter is free to use. One membership adds more room in the garage and more of what Banter writes for you: a plan for one kind of machine under its own name, or Full Garage for every kind. You hold one plan at a time; moving up to Full Garage takes effect at once.
